This project is the continuation of
Project 2. In this project, we were to create a much longer animation than previously.
Essentially expand on the short animation that was made previously.
Considering I was in a time crunch, I decide to go grab inspiration directly
from the web. I have some ideas on what to include in the animation. My
original idea is to have a shifting scene and each scene has three 'layers' at
least.
One of the three layers will move first, follow by the second and the third.
IDEALIZATION
To speed up the process, I take down what is available on the internet and
then create graphic based on that. These are the scene I was going to used in
the animation. In addition to these scenes, I will also be incorporating the
other two scene from Channel Bumper into this project as well.

ILLUSTRATION
Once I have planned out all the scenes I want to include on my
animation, I went on to use Adobe Illustrator to illustrate each of the
scenes base on each three of the scenes. Here are the illustration I
have got.

ANIMATION
I personally find that the animation part of the project is rather
straight forward. I would explain the entire process of how I animate each
and every scene but I feel that I would just be repeating myself all over.
So I will give an overview on how the scene works. The scene is split into
four or five layers.
Fig 3.1 Layer 1 - Skies
Fig 3.2 - Layer 2 Fore Ground
Fig 3.3 - Layer 3/4 Mid Ground
Fig 3.4 - Layer 4/5 Background
Each of the layers will swipe to the right as it transitions out and
swipe in from the left, these animation will be using the basic position
stopwatch.
Fig 4. Transition Animation Keys
The only exception would be the transition to the last two scenes which
uses a 'newspaper' transition and a zoom out transition. For the purpose
of record, I'll only state how I animate what I feel is an important key
point of the animation and show the technique I use for it.
Part of the animation I would like to explain is the turning wind
turbine. What I did is that I split the turbines into three parts; the
body, the connector and the blade into numerous layers. They will be put
in a pre-com for a more tidy workspace. I adjust the anchor point of the
blade and ensure it is in the very center of the blade. Then I used the
rotation stopwatch to animate the blade rotating.
Fig 5.1 Animating the Blade
Another animation I want to talk about is the 'newspaper' transition
that I previously mention. It's purpose is to give a smooth transition
into the bus scene. How I create this effect is that I create two
versions of the newspaper; one is where the newspaper is on it's side
bent and another where the entire paper faces the camera (plain
rectangle).
I place both version of paper onto the scene and I used the basic
controls (rotate and position stopwatch) to move the paper. I then
create a mask for both of the papers. One mask will be hiding the
rectangular newspaper in the beginning of the scene and another mask
will hid the bent newspaper after reaching a certain position close to
the rectangular newspaper. Once the bent newspaper reaches that point
and hide behind it mask, the mask of the rectangular newspaper will move
the side and reveal the rectangular paper. I used the rotation stopwatch
and the scale stopwatch to move the rectangular paper and scale it up so
that it covers the whole screen.

Fig 6.2 Newspaper (bent) hides behind the mask
Fig 6.3 Another mask move aside to reveal the (rectangular)
newspaper
Once I am done, I rendered three difference scene; the environment swipe
scene, the bus scene and the planet scene for more simpler control and
then compile then into a new After Effects work file with effect added
in between the bus scene and the planet scene.

AUDIO
The next requirement for this project is to add audio into the my
compiled scene. Before I did any of that, I compile a list of sound
effect I need.
Fig 8. Audio Planner
Then I went ahead a download the sound effect I need from this website:
Once I have downloaded all that, I import the entire video on Adobe
Premier Pro and add in the sound effect and music wherever I see fit.

REFLECTION
Although the whole animation isn't quite as impressive as others I have seen, what I am rather proud about this particular result is that I was able to do this whole project without resorting to online tutorials. Even though this resulted in my work not reaching it's full potential, this project has help me gain confidence in my ability to figure thing's out myself in order to achieve effects that I look for using the basic knowledge I have gather previously. I look forward to learning more about After Effect and see what happens if I learn advanced technique and see what I could achieve with that knowledge in mind.

On the first half, we will be starting off with the walk cycle of the character. I wanted to refer to further references on walk cycles outside of the lecture so I found a video that reflects on what I plan to achieve. Here is the video I'm referring to: Due to the differences between my character and the simple character shown here, I decide to improvise certain parts of the animation process. I start out my process by copying the side view outline of the character and draw a quick proportional guideline around the character design. That's when I came upon the first problem. The leg of the character does not have a determined knee point. In order to solve this problem, I readjust the leg a...
Information Design 03.2.2025 - 21.3.2025 Johnny Lam Wee Zhe (0363436) Bachelor of Design in Creative Media EXERCISE 1 - QUANTIFIABLE INFORMATION For the first exercise of information design, we are to buy sort-able objects such colored candies, clips, lego brick etc and sort them out into several stages of graphs. For this particular project, I am using skittles to sort them into posters. Once I have gather all of the skittle onto a large A3 paper, I sorted each of them into different color and here is what I have gathered. Fig 1.1 Sorted Data Once I have sorted them, I rearranged them into different shapes to ensure it looks much more neater. This also the stage where I realize that the candy is arrange similarly to blade of a wind turbine, so I decide to do the chart related to wind turbine. Fig 1.2 Arranged Data Once I have arranged them neatly to one another, the next stage is to...
