Week 1
D – Describe objectively what happenedOn the very first week, I wasn’t really there with the rest of the group as my class takes place in the morning. I was initially joining another group from the morning class. Since Mr. Mike has mentioned that he has no problem with students joining the group of another class. I decided to join this group since there are people I am familiar with here. On the group chat, that is when we get to select our first role which is the first research. I choose technology for my part and to get research about the AR glasses this company uses.
I – Interpret the events
The reason why I decided to move is because my first group does not have enough people to reach the minimum number count and the project topic that this group happened to choose is TrueXR which is the selection that I am most interested in. From what I heard, it was Mr.Mike who suggested this topic for this group.
E – Evaluate what you learned
While doing this research, I have learnt about the features and capability of the XREAL air 2 ultra and I have identified two other technologies used to create an AR experience; spatial recognition and volumetric video. Spatial recognition technology is actually already implemented into the AR glasses. How this glasses work is that it is connected to a dongle which is then connected to a smartphone like device known as XREAL beam pro which is used as a processor. The glass has image tracking capability as well as hand tracking that could potentially help with creating an immersive experience.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
Since this is very early on in the project, there isn’t much to apply it with just yet but it does give me some insight on what questions to ask in regards to XR such as the cleanliness of the glasses and whether the glasses is connected to this specific processor or another processor that TrueXR provided when the interview comes.
Week 2
D – Describe objectively what happenedThis is the day when we have an interview with the representative of TrueXR to get some more insights on how to execute this project, what are the specificities. We met them through Microsoft Teams. The other TrueXR group asks the most questions first and this has provided us further insight on questions we may not have known to ask ourselves. One of our members, Joey, records down every question and answers onto a document which certainly proves to be useful in the future. After the representative gave us information. Mr.Mike then gives us a quick rundown on what to do next. Identify user persona and determine what question to ask on the survey. I chose the identity user persona and had to make up a persona for a character and I came up with a ‘snobbish tourist’ visiting the museum.Of course, the persona is not used during the proposal presentation.
I – Interpret the events
In hindsight, I could understand why this particular persona is not selected. At the time, I noticed how positive the other persona’s are and decided to go for a more ‘difficult’ persona that isn’t friendly and easy to please. However, a snobbish tourist is not exactly a suitable persona as this could be too negative of an assumption to make of the people, perhaps too cynical for a proper idealization. Maybe I did all this because I want to do something to stand out a little and have forgotten that this whole module is for an actual business.
E – Evaluate what you learned
From here, I have learnt about my personal thought process about this whole thing and I believe I should take this a little more seriously and consider what is proper for a business proposal and what isn’t and do not include personal bias into the data. As for the interview answers, it has given us some insights on what question to ask during the survey and where to start with our next research.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
It is likely I would have to take being in the actual business side more seriously and apply it to any future endeavor that involved a business formally. Mayhaps think formally and lead me to a direction on how to research future career prospects.
Week 3
I vaguely remember that we were showing Mr.Mike about the persona that we have come up with. He gives a few feedback which ended up with the persona I came up with not being selected. The feedback does help lead us to the right direction though.
I – Interpret the events
It is of utmost importance to have guidance especially in this stage of the module. It is okay if your ideas don’t get accepted. That is just how we learn things in life.
E – Evaluate what you learned
It is a good mindset to have in life, to ensure you don’t become a bitter person.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
I will keep this in mind and remind myself that rejection is just an opportunity to learn more and get better.
Week 4
This is the week where we are supposed to distribute the form to as many people as we possibly can in order to get the result we want. Everyone did well sharing the form. I tried to share with the very few people I know but that is all I was able to do. I am also assigned to do the empathy map.
I – Interpret the events
I am unsure of what lessons I have learnt from this. One of the things I could possibly gather from this is that my social circle is rather small and I'm stuck in not knowing what to do to help send out the survey form. Perhaps I need to expand my social circle a little bit or have enough confidence to send out the form to everyone.
E – Evaluate what you learned
Social networking is a rather important thing especially in this day and age. It will bring you favor in terms of your future career. This week has reminded me of that.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
Maybe add a reminder and tell myself how important it is to remind myself how important networking is.
Week 5
This is the day when we are to try out some AR glasses that they have in hand. Both the groups line up in order to try on the glasses but not a lot of people seem to be excited in wearing them and some need to be called out for them to try it on. Before this, I had expected that the AR glasses would work just like VR headsets but my expectation broke when I put it on. Immediately I could see the limitation of the glasses. The AR feature can only be seen in the centre of the glass, there is an area on the glass lens where I can’t see the projected AR elements. Aside from that, I am tasked with creating the pedestal of the event. In order to do so, I used various elements of Malaysian culture such as stilted houses, lion dance stands, woven hats etc.
I – Interpret the events
While trying on the AR, I realize that this has much less of an immersive impact than I previously thought. Perhaps my expectation was too high on the technology and is left with a bit of a disappointment. Maybe it’s because I have tried VR (something that I personally find very immersive) and this spoils the usage of AR. This is simply no one’s fault. At worst, this could just be circumstantial. At least now we know how digital elements present themselves.
E – Evaluate what you learned
I have gathered first hand experience in what it was like to use the AR glasses that are planned to be used in the event. That in itself is crucial when it comes to designing what the event would look like.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
I suspect that this could be applied to when we started designing the floor plans and what the final display could look like for the event. It will also help knowing the flaw of the glasses in order to improve the experience for the visitors.
Week 6
D – Describe objectively what happened
This week, we have visited the
museum and scope out the area as some of us have never seen Muzium Negara. I
notice that the main lobby is not as large as I anticipated. The next thing I
notice is the number of people visiting the area and the small walkway at the
side if the event were to be hosted in the centre of the carpet. Assuming the
event would be hosted in the entirety of the carpet area of the lobby. Aside
from that, there are color adjustments to be made since the group have decided
on a color scheme and has to apply it to the pedestals.
I – Interpret the events
Viewing the lobby of Muzium Negara has
raised another question in what part of the Muzium Negara is being booked for
the event, specifically which part of the lobby. If it is likely there’ll be
small walkways on the side especially since there are display cases as well.
The entirety of the carpet area been book does have a chance of a nice
experience but a half booked area is just too small for an AR event for viewer
to enjoy.
E – Evaluate what you learned
We have learnt about the appearance
of the Muzium Negara lobby and have gained one crucial piece of information
when it comes to designing what the event could look like. The view also
brings up some questions to ask Mr.Mike in terms of the area that are booked.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
I will apply this
knowledge I gathered and apply it to any setting design for a foreseeable
future and the ask Mr.Mike the important question.
Week 7
We decided to show Mr.Mike our progress when he pointed out that there is a lack of narration within the event and does not really make sense to him. He suggested adding art direction and the story to the experience and that’s what we did. I am tasked with content design. For this task, I used another set of reference images to determine what the content would show for each of the stations; outfit, food and games.
I – Interpret the events
It would seem that we didn’t really plan that well for the event especially when it comes to details on the event, especially with the narration and marketing materials. There is certainly some stuff we miss in our discussion.
E – Evaluate what you learned
Perhaps taking a look at the overall event or maybe learning about the basics of event planning. Something is certainly missing here.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
In the future onwards, a detailed consideration of the event can be kept in mind when the time to plan has come.
Week 9
This week, we have a proposal presentation with representatives of TrueXR and they have given many suggestions for me to recount all at the moment. At the top of my head, they have mentioned that the current plan we have is leaning towards the traditional side way more and would like us to balance it out with a more modern or futuristic look in order to attract younger audiences. They also really like the emphasis on adding animals to the event, especially the butterfly.
I – Interpret the events
I believe that the client has an idea on what they want for their event but hasn’t really fully voiced that out quite yet. We may have to rely on ourselves on what is the right question to ask the client what they like.
E – Evaluate what you learned
Determining the right question to ask would help get oneself closer to the goal of achieving a client’s satisfaction.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
It’s a good plan to keep in mind the next time a job requires knowing what someone wants. Maybe do some research prior to meeting the person of interest and pre construct question for discussion.
Week 10
D – Describe objectively what happened
The plans have been adjusted
according to the feedback given during the proposal presentation and is then
sent to Mr.Mike for evaluation. He has given a few more feedbacks. As a
result, the group will have to come up with a more detailed storyboard than
what we currently have and plan out a visitor’s journey from the time of
entrance to leaving time. Each one of us will pick apart the visitor’s journey
to draw out the storyboard.Since some parts of the storyboard are much longer
than others, those who finished with their own section help out with those
that are incomplete.
I – Interpret the events
I think this is one of those moments where
teamwork is being emphasised.
E – Evaluate what you learned
Teamwork is one of the most common
types of work space especially in creative industries.. If some members are
unable to finish their part due to the unequal workload, the other’s should
come in and help fill out. This would ensure team efficiency and ensure that
members don’t get burnout which may reduce the quality of a person’s work.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
This sort of mindset can
be used for future careers as mentioned earlier, teamwork is very common
amongst the creative industry. It is important to ensure everyone in the group
gets an equal amount of workload and if the workload seems to be
miscalculated, members who are done with their side of the project should help
out those who are unable to finish it on time by themselves in order to reach
team efficiency.
Week 11
In this next stage, we are to start working on the key visual. Each one of us will be assigned to sketch out each of the station designs and then collect individual elements of the station and send them to another member who is tasked with compiling them into a key visual for each of the stations. We have previously discussed and agreed that each station should focus on each part of the house. I was assigned to a clothing station. I was initially gonna do folded clothing on the bed but change it to dresser instead, with a music box on top that displays what the clothes look like being worn by a model. Then from there, we collect images of each element according to the sketch and send it to another member who is to compile them together as a key visual. For this part, I have to edit the images a little bit as none of the pictures I found are suitable.
I – Interpret the events
I feel that from this experience alone, it is always good to adapt. Sometimes things do not go a person’s way and they will have to work around it in order to solve their predicament.
E – Evaluate what you learned
Adapting according to the challenges that get in the way of your goals is always a good skill to have, this can be applied to any career.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
Getting into an unfamiliar situation could help with improving a person's adaptability skill especially when an unexpected problem arises. Another way this can also be done is to improve on critical thinking skills which is essential in making choices.
Week 12
Just like the other times, we have split assignments among each one of us. This time we are doing a layered storyboard. Each one of us is to create each of the layers for every station but first, we have to create the storyboard for just one station before committing to the rest of the station. I manage to finish up my work on the same day it was assigned.
I – Interpret the events
I feel like there really isn’t much of a lesson to learn from this, this time.
E – Evaluate what you learned
Closest I could get to a lesson learned is that the morning bird catches the worm. It’s never bad to finish up early.
Week 13
D – Describe objectively what happened
Just like all the others, everyone
is once again assigned to each part of their job. I myself is assigned to
create an animated map of how the flow goes during the event, a guidance of
sorts leading to each station and then the exit. To save time on animation, I
use Adobe After Effects to create the map animation. After finishing the
animated map, I then receive feedback on it sometime after week 14 to make
changes to it, especially the color.
I – Interpret the events
I feel that this sort of correction is
rather common especially in creative industries to make last minute changes
and may be done repeatedly depending on the demand of clients or those in
superior positions.
E – Evaluate what you learned
Since changes like this are
commonplace, I realize it is pretty important to ensure that workfile
accommodates future editing in order to ensure that the edit on the work can
be done easily if there ever is a need for adjustments.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
An example on how this
can be executed is to leave the workfile in a separate layer rather than
flatten them or group specific shapes together rather than turning them into
compounds so that adjustment can be made to smaller elements with
reconstructing the work again. The philosophy behind this is to make your work
as editable as possible.
Week 14
D – Describe objectively what happened
One week 14, we are now doing the
final iteration of the storyboard. As always, each one of us will be assigned
to at least two parts of a storyboard. I will be handling the first step 3 and
step 5 station 1. Once one of us makes the first part of the storyboard that
determines the style of the rest of the storyboard, a resource will be sent to
the rest of the group who then uses the same resource to fill in their part of
the storyboard. I will just fill in according to the key visuals.
I – Interpret the events
I feel that we manage to work well as a
group despite working on several different parts of the storyboard. Even
though some of us are still unsure what’s going on (by someone, I meant me),
we have managed to wrap up the project and are now getting ready for the final
presentation.
E – Evaluate what you learned
This may just be speculation but the
reason why things have gone smoothly is because of the good communication that
the group has and the competent skill of the group leader and co-leader.
Everyone also did their part as well.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied
I have yet to know how
this can be applied. Mayhaps in the future, if one were to end up as a leader,
it is good to recall what the leader did that makes teamwork run smoothly and
imitate what they did. Increasing communication skill is a plus but I have yet
to explore the specificity on how that can be done yet.
