Film Studies and Cinematography - Project 2
INSTRUCTIONS
PROJECT 2 - PITCH BIBLE
The second stage of this overall short film making process is to make the 'pitch bible'. The pitch bible is in a sense a presentation used to propose story idea to executives in order to gain grants or permission from large studios to work on. Before making the slide themselves, I will have to determine what are the likely style of the story.
ENVIRONMENT DRAWING
The first thing I do is to draw the environment for each of the setting in the story and in the process, determined the overall look of the film. For each of the environment, I start off with a guideline and draw out the shapes. Here are several process I laid for each of the environments:
FUN ISLAND
In the Fun Island, I used the two point perspective to help guide me with
drawing out the environment. First, I draw the outline of the island that have
envisioned in my mind. More of a temporarily outline for me to plan out and
then trace after.
Once I have done with the island, I add some more 'decorations' to the island according to the description I initially have from project one.
SEWER
For the sewer, I once again use a two point perspective for my perspective
but in a much different way that the island due to the sewer being a long
corridor. Like the previous location, I start out writing down the guideline
of the location.
I then add the radioactive sludge for the cake to fall into while also glowing.
DOWNTOWN
For the downtown area, I use perspective plane to help aid with my drawing. Initially I have another version of the design. However, I find it a bit of flat and decide to revise the downtown.
So, I revise the downtown area but this time, I used the same perspective plane for the revised version. I once again draw the guideline of the downtown.
Next I draw the outline of the road and the fill in the color of the
building.
After that, I add in the background of the downtown and then add a darken
filter to the picture.
BEACH
The final environment I decide to draw is the Pebble Beach. Also used a two point perspective.
As I repeat the same action as I did for previous environments, I'll skip ahead and show the final image.
CHARACTERS
The next step of the process is to start designing the characters. Naturally, the first character that I drew would be cake so I decide to make a turnover sheet for Cake. I initially design a few character design before picking the sole design. Here are some of the designs.
PITCH BACKGROUND
Then, I have to made the background of the slide including the title of the short film and the title and content box. There are certain element that I made separately. Here are what I have made.
Once I am done with the elements, I compile all of them into the
presentation and add in some information about the short film.
FINAL RESULT
Once I'm done with the Pitch Bible, I also have to present the pitch bible in a video form.
FEEDBACK
Maybe readjust the beach environment and have the wave curve according to
the angle. Maybe use the reference of the beach to make the adjustment.
REFLECTION
One of the my most particular favorite result of this project is the sewer art. Something about it that makes it look a little interesting to look at. The Downtown area on the other hand is something I am not truly satisfied with despite the revision. Something about it seem off. Due to time constraints, I am left with no choice but go on with what I had. Perhaps I could make some changes for the final animation of the short film.
