PROJECT 1 - HARD SURFACE MODELLING
In this project, we are tasked with selecting from four given categories to
start modelling; vehicle, robots, machine and weapons. For this particular
task, I choose vehicle as my model; specifically a spaceship. Before starting
to model, I have to look for image reference and here is what I have
downloaded:
Fig 1.1 Image Reference
I start of this modeling project with identifying the basic shape of
this spaceship. I find this somewhat difficult as I have no idea how this
shape would look especially with curves. I ended up starting the shape with
a single cube and using various different tools to create the tail of the
spaceship.

I follow the shape of the reference the best I can and once I'm done. I
select half of the of spaceship model and delete them. Then I apply mirror
modifier to ensure a symmetrical look.

Then, I begin to apply some more detail onto the spaceship and add in the
cockpit of the spaceship since there will be a window that show the inside
of the cockpit. I model out the seats and a wheel for the spaceship and make
adjustments.

When the whole thing is done. I move onto applying texture onto the ship. I
initially only increase the metallic drag bar to give the ship texture but
it does not seem right to me so I download and an outside texture instead. I
got the texture from this website:
https://www.poliigon.com/search/free
I used the shade node to create the texture and add normal maps together to
create the texture. Then I apply the glass material to the window. To make a
more 'realistic' looking window, I went on Youtube and look up on how to
make the windows look just like glass. Here is the video tutorial I follow:
After I have applied all the texture and made proper adjustment. I begin to
work on the background by adding stars into the background since the
spaceship is in space. Here is the video tutorial I found to pull off such a
feat:
This is the result of the spaceship after adding in lighting and starry
background:
Fig 2. Space Ship rendering
From the rendering itself, I find numerous lighting error on the ship
especially the top of the ship. I have no idea how to fix the lighting error
so I decide to submit the material render of the model. Here is the final
submission for this project:

REFLECTION
After completing this modelling, I find that fixing the artifact of the
complete render to be rather difficult especially when I have no idea what
to do. Perhaps I could look into a complete guide to solve different types
of artifacts or lighting error. The model also does not look like the actual
reference image which can be quite bothersome especially if a client wants
something to look exactly like a the still reference sent. Perhaps this
endeavor would require further exploration of the application or uses nodes
which I have yet to master.
