PROJECT 2 - AUDITORY IMAGING
For this project, we are tasked with creating a soundscape to tell the story
without using any narration and dialogue. We are to select a scenario from a
list of scenario to tell the story. I decide to pick choice 6: Market + Rural
atmosphere + Background.
Story
A young peasant carries a basket of vegetables from her kitchen table and then
she walks out of her house. She walks down the path that led to a nearby
village so that she can sell vegetables that she has harvested. She walks down
a lush forest filled with the noise of birds chirping and the tiny drip of
morning dew. As she walks, she hums to herself as she walk down the path
(maybe greeted by villagers using a series of Hmm... and ahs). As she get
close, the sound of the market being set up can be heard that steadily grows
louder as she walks. She can already hear the cries of other vendor who open
up the market stand early. She sets up her stall and place the vegetable in
nice order before she yell to grab attention of other visitors. As time
passed, the market gets much busier. Eventually the market would slow down and
the sun has finally set. The peasant counts the coin she has earned and makes
a satisfactory hum at the sales she had, closes her stall.
From the story, I extract all the possible sounds I may need for the project
on Microsoft Excel. Here is the link to view the sound I have planned
initially:
Then according to the list, download audio or audio that closely resembles the
specific sound I seek:
Then, I import the sounds into Adobe Audacity and arrange and adjust
accordingly, using the tools that the lecturer taught. Here is the final
result:
FEEDBACK
[Feedback is not applied to the final result]
Her walking is way too long and dragging. Maybe apply a more directional effect on the horse for example. The background sound is too repetitive, add more variations especially the bird noise).
REFLECTION
When doing this project, I have receive feedback that I never really thought of. Relying on solely audio to tell the tale can quite the challenge especially without the dialogues of any kind. This only makes harder if you want to find non verbal voice sounds that remain consistent with the sound. I never really thought that the audio only based visualization may not reflect to what the actual sounds make and there should be shortened in order for it not to drag too long.
