There are several stages of a movie production:

1) Development - The development stage is the first stage of film production where the planning, write        and organizing takes place. It is also where the budget of film-making is determined, actors playing what roles, locations scouted and multiple scripts and drafts written. The development stage can take for an extended number of time and may last up to months and even years before production can take place. At this point, only the creatives and executives are needed in this stage.

2) Pre-production - The second stage is the pre-production stage where the concept of the movie has be solid and work heavily on to ensure the quality of story telling. It is during this stage when casts are hired, location is found, scripts are finalize etc. This is when all checklist has to be ticked before the major production.

3) Production - The production stage is the third stage of film production where the actual shoot occurs. During production, crews, props, casts and equipment are brought to the location to gather capture all the necessary footage.

4) Post-production - The post production stage is the next stage. During this stage, the footage captured during the production stage is gathered and edited as well as the sounds, both recorded during the shoot and outside the shoot. It's also during this time when the title of the project is given. Despite it's name, the post production stage takes place at the same duration that production happens to ensure the identification of problems such as a plot hole in stories and footage troubles.

5) Distribution - The distribution stage is the final stage of film production. The project is complete and is ready to be distributed. In this stage, the project is shown to the audience either on television, theater or streaming services.

Video Editing

After the shoot, I went a head and start to compile the footage and recorded sounds together, cutting off unnecessary parts and choose which clip to be included in the video. Here are the raw, unadulterated result:

Then I start to do further editing to the footage. I did some color correction, some transition effects where I think is appropriate, captions (as requested by Mr. Martin) and add music to the compiled footage.

PROJECT 2B - TIKTOK VIDEO TREATMENT

For the second part of project 2, we are tasked with shooting our own Tiktok/Instagram Shorts video. There are no given themes for this and we have the freedom to create a video that represents us as a whole.

Idealization

The first step to doing this Tiktok video is to plan them all out first. Here are the slides of the plan for the Tiktok video treatment:

My idea for this Tiktok is to create a sort of satire cooking Tiktok of me making food and following recipes I found on the internet. As an inspiration, I pick one of Tiktoker I followed name Blake Jennings who created a series called Depression Meal Mondays where he 'cooks' various depress meals while getting insulted by himself.

The videos usually shows him doing stuff while there is a voice over going on and talking about what he is doing.

Another inspiration is from another Tiktoker name Andy Cooks and I plan to do a similar setup as him for my Tiktok Video.

Video Shooting

One major challenge of this shooting is that I do not know what the setup looks like as the setting I shoot in is in a place that I have never visit before. Only until the day of the shooting when I get to see how the setup is like so I have to think on my feet and figure out where to place my tripod and camera. I borrowed a friend's phone for shooting better quality video.

This is how some of the set up is like:

As this video is going to be voice overs, there are no concerns regarding environmental sounds and noises make by sudden interruption.

Video Editing

After shooting all the required clip, the next stage of this project is to edit the video. I first have to add in the clips into a more cohesive order while trying to keep the video around a minute short. This proves to be quite challenging as the clips are hours long.

After I was able to edit the video to be more cohesive and around a minute short. Then, I start to write the dialogue for the voice over by testing out the dialogue by speaking the line while playing the silent video clip and then record the lines using a build-in microphone of my headphone.

Fig 5.4 Playing clips to test out written lines (28/10/2023 Week 9)

Fig 5.5 Recording the lines (28/10/2023 Week 9)

After recording all the line, I edit the sound recording in Adobe Audition and denoise the background humming and then compile the sound together with the video.

For the background music, I went to this website to download copyright free music and use two songs from it:

Metal (Dark Matter) by Grohl

Sunset Vibes (Lo-Fi/Chillhop) by 23843807

After adding the background music to my video, I add some small graphics into the video such as text and images and make some color corrections.

REFLECTION

This whole project has been quite an experience, especially during the shoot of being an actor (or actress in this case) as no one else wants to take the role. I feel somewhat weird looking at myself and see myself on screen but eventually I got used to it due to the number of edits I did. The Tiktok treatment task also helps me get use to hearing my own voice through a device. For the first time, the recorded sound of my voice no longer sound weird to me. It actually sounds natural. This is quite a shock to me but this experience as whole will definitely make any future project involving my voice a lot easier.
