INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 1A - AUDIO DUBBING

For our first project, we are tasked with adding dialogues and sound effect into a soundless scene, extracted from a movie called Munich. This scene specifically:

Before doing anything else, the first thing I do is to list down all the audio effects and dialogue line on a spreadsheet as suggested by Mr. Martin. Here is the audio dub spreadsheet below or click on this link to view it in google spreadsheet.

From there, I download all the sound effect I have planned in this spreadsheet. Some of these sound effects however requires cutting or manipulation to fit the scene more, especially when I can't find specific sounds I have in mind. I download my audio from the following site:

https://freesound.org/

Then I record the dialogue with my voice on a phone. Here is the link to the raw sound effect:

Then I import the sound effect into the video clip according to what have been seen on screen and ambient noises.

PROJECT 1B - SOUND SHAPING

For the next part of the exercise, we were tasked with manipulating a conversation. Here is the original dialogue.

From here, we are to shape the sound according to a list of context around the sounds which are:

- Alien/Orc
- In The Closet
- Phone Call
- Underground Cave
- Toilet/Bathroom

We have to import the audio into Adobe Audacity and edit the sound according to each of the context. I decide to do them all including both orc and alien.

REFLECTION

This project is rather fun but it requires multiple adjustments to be in sync with the video. I don't mind personally though. One of the more challenging things to do in this project is to find the right sound effect for the scene. Particularly the explosion and the crowd panicking is not really great but it is the only available sound effect in the website I have chosen and it should do. We also get learn more about the control on how to manipulate sounds. This project however does makes me rather curious about making those sounds.
