LECTURE

Just like the previous week, week 5 is also interrupted by another public holiday. Therefore, week 5 lecture is pushed back to week 6 similar to week 4 lecture. For this particular lecture, we learn about the basics of photography. As most of the students does not own a DSLR, Mr. Fauzi glazes over certain topic regarding the DSLR and cover topics that has general application.

We have learnt about exposure setting. Exposure is the the amount of light that reaches the camera sensor. There are two setting that affect the actual exposure luminosity of an image; IRIS and Shutter Speed. The third setting also affect the brightness of the photo; ISO.

IRIS/Aperture - Parts of the camera that controls the amount of light that gets in the lenses. The wider the aperture, the brighter the photo and vise versa.

Shutter Speed - The shutter is a small plastic sheet that open and closes to allow light to enter or prevent light from entering. Fast shutter speed capture still images while slow shutter capture blurry movement of the subject.

ISO - Originally refers to sensitivity of film, it is now referred as sensitivity of the camera's sensors.

In addition, we have also learn the advantages and disadvantages of using a smart phone rather than DSLR:
PROS
- Familiar with Device
- Good Quality
- Easy to Learn

CONS
- Limited
- Good but Not Great
- Non Ergonomic Shape

There are also other disadvantages as well; the phone is made to handle multitude of tasks while DSLR are made specifically for picture taking and is therefore more image taking options. Phone also has limited size and DSLR has a bigger lenses and sensors.

PRACTICAL

For this week's practical, we are tasked with editing in a superhero, Shazam into an image of Hearst Palace as practice. Then, we will have to take pictures of ourselves and Photoshop them into the Hearst Palace image. Here is the Photoshop Shazam:

For the photos where I have to add myself to Hearst Palace, I decide to use this picture of me to edit myself in:

I went ahead an take the same action I took when editing in Shazam. Here is the result of adding myself to the photo:

At this part of the semester, learning new tools and technique on Photoshop got me thinking about the possibilities of creating something good in Photoshop. I have fun playing with Photoshop and adding myself to places where I would likely never have been. As much as it is an enigma, once I get to know your way around Photoshop, it will sure get me to stay entertain throughout the process.
