LECTURE
On the third week of the lecture, we are introduced the features of Photoshop
and learn of the basics of Photoshop. We get to learn selection, layering,
tool box and marquee selection tool (use to select and masking).
We also learn the lasso tool, a tool used to draw or select specific parts of
a photo. There are three types of lasso tools:
- Lasso
- Polygonal Lasso
- Magnetic Lasso
In addition, we also get to learn how to use the pen tool. The pen tool is a
tool that is used to create path from scratch. There is even a website to help
improve skills in using the pen tool call
The Bézier Game.

The pen tool create extremely precise shapes and paths it is not natively
made as a selection tool.
We also get to learn more about layering. Layering are different elements or
images stack upon one another. Each layer can be adjusted with affecting the
rest of the layer. A few benefits of layers is that there can be edit photos
non-destructively and never destroys the original photo.
TUTORIAL
PRACTICAL
For this week's practical, we are tasked with creating a digital collage
with elements provided in google class. Here are the three compositions I
have created:
Fig 2.1 Digital Composition 1
Fig 2.3 Digital Composition 3
I find that doing this exercise is much more easier than the physical collage
exercise especially since the selection of elements are much less than the
physical collage. There is really no meaning behind these compositions. Just
place the arrangement base on aesthetic and color contrast. I was sort of
going for a book cover kind of collage.
