LECTURE

For our week seven lecture, we learn more ways where double exposure can be achieved in Photoshop. Double exposure refers to the merging of multiple images to create a surreal, humorous or emotional work. Here are the ways that double exposure can be achieved.

1) Using Tilt-Shift Effect
Blur one of the photos instead of the entire image or blur everything except for important details. This can be achieve by going to Filter > Blur Gallery > Tilt-Shift.

2) Create Fake Reflection
One of the ways to create a fake reflection double exposure is to use a separate window photo. The image example below show the merging of raindrops and bokeh to add interesting texture to the double exposure photography.

3) Experiment with Simple Portraits and Detailed Texture
Combine a simple image with a more complex image helps to balance out the results.

4) Convert Results to Black and White
It is said that the lack of color can strengthen the emotions of your double exposure image and gives a unique depth.

 5) Work with Silhoutte
Double exposure that only works with silhouette.

\6) Pick Two Random Pictures
Rather than focusing on double exposure ideas, take pictures of interesting textures, shapes and forms and combine them together. This can create a story organically.

7) Make simple objects more interesting
Take photos of everyday object and make them interesting. The examples below uses city buildings to turn to a starry outline of the night sky.

8) Use shadows
Instead of silhoutte, shadows can also be used in double exposure and can be just as great.

TUTORIAL

PRACTICE

For our practice, we are tasked with creating double exposure of a Filipino model and follow the tutorial video. Here are the before and after pictures of the edit:

In addition to this practice, we are also tasked with taking pictures of ourselves and create our own double exposure. Here are the before and after pictures:

I personally find that double exposure is an interesting photography effect. I have seen a few examples of double exposure, considering how popular this effect is. It is a beautiful effect and I am glad to say that I have pull off a double exposure. There of course still have improvements that can be made into double exposure. In addition, using a different photo to create a texture of a silhouette that simply make sense is definitely one of my favorite kind of double exposure and that requires better creative thinking, for example: the texture of the wave can be use to texture the silhouette of a dress etc.
