LECTURE

On week six of our lecture, we learn about the basic of poster making related to the upcoming project. We learn the seven principals in poster designs;
- Emphasis
- Balance and Alignment
- Contrast: Making the poster 'pop' with a high saturation difference.
- Repetition: Unifies and strengthens design.
- Proportion: Visualize size and weight of elements in a composition and how they related to each other.
- White Space: Allows the poster to breathe and look less crowded.

PRACTICE

For this week's practical, we are tasked with recoloring black and white photos. There are three photos to recolor. The first is a picture of an elderly man, here is the before and after pictures:

Fig 1.1  Elderly Man (Black and White)

Fig 1.2 Elderly Man (Recolor)

The second picture is a picture of young woman, using a masking to recolor rather than the traditional brush over picture technique.

Fig 2.2 Picture of Woman (Recolor)

For the third picture, we are given a selection of pictures to choose and recolor them using the same technique used to recolor the same photo of the second picture. I choose the picture of the bearded man.

Doing this exercise has been quite enlightening to me, it really pushes me into figuring out the color of the person using several references as a starting point. I feel that this exercise have help me decide what color put on to certain parts of the black and white image. What I really look forward to is the new masking technique that I learnt while doing this exercise. Thanks to that, I can select the finest part of one's hair much easily and I can only imagine how useful such a tool is going to be.
